Submission Rules

MKEpunk offers defunct Milwaukee-area bands a way to share their out-of-print music recordings under a Creative Commons Non-Commercial License. This allows "copies" of the work to be shared and distributed freely, for non-commercial use, while the artist retains the copyright to the work. You can learn more about Creative Commons here.

The Rules

  • The band must agree to release the recording for free download on our site.
  • The recording should be at least 10 years old
  • The band should hail from Milwaukee or Southeastern WI*
  • The band should be considered punk, new-wave, indie, hardcore, emo, etc... If you're not sure, just ask.

* We may consider bands from other cities like Madison if they've played here enough to qualify.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I have a tape, but I wasn't in the band?

We may still want it. If you, or MKEpunk, can get in touch with the band and they grant permission to release it, then we'll consider adding it to the site.

Our demo tape was included on a discography that is still in print, can we put the demo on the site?

Unfortunately, no. We want to focus on releases that are no longer in print. If we find out that a release that has been submitted to the site is, in fact, in print, we will promptly remove it from the site

I have a cassette or record and don't know how to convert it to MP3. Do you still want it?

Yes. We have a small group of volunteers who can convert them to release on the website. Just get in touch and we can make arrangements. Conversions can take a few days or a few weeks, depending on the schedules of our volunteers.

How do I get my material added to the site?

Drop an email to ihavestuff(at)MKEpunk.com or use the contact form below and let us know!
